The Doctor's confessions by MatiasSoto The Doctor's confessions by MatiasSoto
-"Doctor Who" fanart comic page-

Ever since I watched "The Name of the Doctor" and later with the announcement of the rengeneration of the Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith I got thinking about how many conflicts the Doctor has gone since his darkest and yet -for the most part- unknown time in the "Last Great Time War". I got to think that though there's lot about the regeneration that appears to be random(the Ninth Doctor said it himself "you never know what you gonna get") I got this theory that the process it is somehow affected by his life, and each regeneration concentrates aspects of his personality each time. So I wanted to write those ideas as an internal monologue of the Doctor, kinda like a trailer of what I expect from the 2 remaining episodes in 2013 which are indeed awaited from the greatest of anticipation from the fandom.

For the outfit for Peter Capaldi's Doctor I wanted to add some of the details that made the old Doctor's wardrobe stand out, maybe not as much as the sixth Doctor but I wonder if something a bit more flashy other that the suits and jackets he have had since the new series from 2005. Specially since this Doctor was teased by show-runner Steven Moffat to be "darker" than previous encarnations, he would need even more something like that in his clothing to balance it out, afterall he's still The Doctor. I can understand the "Time War Doctor" being overly dark and serious, but the regular Doctor still needs some silliness to him.

There are many great songs of the OST for the show that could be the perfect backdrop for this "trailer" page, one could "Vale Decim", "Doomsday","Father's Day", "The Impossible Choice", ... many great songs from the score of Murray Gold.

I hope you gals/guys like it!

(BTW, as many of you know, English isn't my first language so feel free to let me know if I made a mistake on grammar of whatever, thanks!)

UPDATE: AAnd I’ve just watched the new trailer , HOLY CRAP! I WANT TO SEE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL ON A 3D THEATER SO BAD NOW!!
I can’t believe this comic page I made is so in line(from what I gather from the trailer) with it’s coming, adsdfadfasdfasdadad I CAN’T WAIT!!! :D

Truly an inspirational piece, and a wonderful job capturing the essence of each doctor.
I ses that Capaldi is wearing a chess-like jacket, how dis you imagined his costume before the official was announced?

Thank you very much, I'm glad you think so.
And yes, that's the case. Capaldi had been announced  but no official shot of the twelfth Doctor had been released yet(in fact, I think I did this before even the 50th anniversary special "The day of the doctor" was released) so I improvised that coat on him :P

It looks less"magician-esque" than his official costume but it's still a great addition to the character :)

Yeah, I had no idea what will they for on Capaldi's costume so I just gambled on that funky chess pattern for no reason :B

The ironic thing is that Twelve's outfit looks more Magician-esque than his last costume.

It's cool! But his outfit isn't that much fixed either, he wears a different suit on each episode.

a very chilling and moving speech! nicely done. the only problem is one teeny tiny little grammatical error in the fourth panel. the line "how much dark things would get" needs to be changed. it should either be "how dark things would get" or "how much darker things would get." other than that, it's brilliant.

Hey! Thank you! :)
I'm glad you liked it, I wanted to go deep into the lives and feelings of each doctor and yet to keep a feeling and a narrative that it would be noticeable that's still the same man in every regeneration.
I read it several times while writing it, and sometimes I imagined each text with each of the doctor's voices, others all in Peter Capaldi's... I thought it worked either way, and that's the beauty of comics, every person can imagine what it likes best :D

As Jackson Lake would say (from the next doctor), "BRAVO, SIR! BRAVO!!!!!" :D

incredible piece!! and as for the regeneration part, supposedly a Time Lord can choose the new body at will, even try out diferent appearances during the first hours (the same way the tenth doctor regenerated his severed hand, btw), it's shown with Romana trying out different looks when she regenerated, not sure about the details, I haven't seen much of the Classic Doctors myself ^^;

I've not seen much of the Classic Who so I didn't know about that, I guess that means the Doctor was either lying or doesn't know how to handle regeneration as he doesn't know how to handle the TARDIS :XD: I've always gotten the impression that among the Time Lords he wasn't the brightest of them, he's smart because he's 1000 years old timelord in comparisson to other creatures he's overly intelligent, but what made him stand out the other Time Lords was his curiosity, his gentle heart, his sense of adventure and the courage to do what's right , which seems to be qualities most other time lords care little for. Which in turn, for me , makes the theory about the Doctor being half human(like it was said in Paul McGann's Movie) a more plausible explanation why he's so different.

actually the Doctor himself explained in an episode (im not sure if its Classic Who or New Who) that regeneration is something timelords learn at timelords school back on Galifrey, but the Doctor skipped the session where they explained it.

Hence the reason why he regenerate randomly, since he doesnt know how to control it.

Also did you saw the mini webisode that BBC released for the 50th anniversary, its with Paul Mcgann as the 8th doctor and its a prequel for the 50th anniversary special, the moment he regenerated to John Hurt.

I've seen it yes, thanks. I made another fanart inspired by it actually : matiassoto.deviantart.com/art/…

But in that same minisode the woman tells the 8th Doctor because they perfected it the change doesn't have to be random, hence the standard regeneration is random.

actually, the reason why he doesn't seem to control the regeneration process is because it's more fun for him to just let it go by itself and see what form he regenerates into XD... maybe he has qualities other Time Lords lack, but that's because he's even more intelligent, once, the fourth Doctor was elected as President of Gallifrey, so, naturally, he wasn't allowed to leave the planet to continue his ongoing lifestyle of free traveling (maybe that was the whole point of making him President XD), but he managed to distract the guards and leave in his TARDIS XD, the reason why The Doctor is so different from other Time Lords is because he is more curious, he asked the question "what if we stop just observing and begin using our time-space-traveling abilities to help the universe?", he's a progresist amongst a decadent race, a humanist on a planet of isolated neutralists

Having seen the classic Who, I've always had the impression that the Doctor always stayed with one regeneration till that one was either too old to continue- as in the case of the first Doctor- or was too severely injured- as was the case with the Fourth Doctor- then he simply allowed the process to take over and settled for whatever came out of it. And it was stated in the series that Romana graduated from their Academy with higher marks than the Doctor- I always got the feeling he was a little jealous of that. :-)
Then too, there's the Master- who went through an entire life of regenerations, using them as disguises. So deliberate regeneration is possible, and having seen and heard about the new series,it seems The Doctor just does it that way when he has to.

He also told Martha Jones he failed his exam to pilot the Tardis :P
And yes, I think the regeneration it doesn't just happen because he can be killed without being able to regenerate before, the Eleventh Doctor has implied that he can willinglly trigger the regeneration process, when he was poisoned by River he asked the Tardis for a cure and when it said there was none he said :"Well. I guess I should regenerate, right?".It seems it generates a new body when the old body is too damaged to sustain life any longer but seemingly painful and unpleaseant experience they try to avoid it.

It's also been known to leave the Doctor a little rattled. When he regenerated from the third Doctor to the fourth, It took him about a quarter of the first episode to pull himself together.
