Ok, this is long overdue. Ever since I've joined DA I've been getting a lot of notes and comments which certain subjects that are brought up quite often.
Some are quite reasonable inquires, others a bit outlandish (for me at least) but I assure you that I got all of these at least twice so that's why I decided to put them up here.
I hope you don't take it badly but from now on, I'm not gonna answer any of the questions featured on this list, and refer you to this list. And this list will be updated as long as I keep getting repeated questions.
It's just about time saving really.
So off we go!
Question:
Can I color your work?
Answer:
Sure, no problem. I'm flatered actually, as long it isn't for profit or tracing, and the proper credit(that is crediting me as the lineart and linking back to my deviation or my gallery in the comment of your deviation) is given I don't mind at all.
Send me the link when you're done! It's always nice to see the results and I'll add your link to my deviation's comment.
Questions:
-Can you draw me XXXXXX? I can't pay you right now but I'll XXXXXX
-Do you take requests?
-I'm a bit low on money, so can I give you instead a llama ? Or if you want me to do some advertising for you?
Answer:
I'm sorry but I'm a professional illustrator/comic artist, that means that my work is my primary source of income.
Drawing is my job so in order to pay my expenses I must get paying gigs, that means I have a limited amount of time to devote to my work, and commissions are regularlly an extra, it's just as simple as that.
So unless I clearlly state it, every time I open commissions I do it for money, and any alternative won't cut it.
You have to understand that if I took your request it would be unfair to everyone.
At least that's how things are for the time being, so I hope you can understand it.
Every once in a while I do some free giveaways, like Kiribans, but that would properly announced before and it's clearly the exception not the rule.
Question :
-How much for a sketch?I'm interested in a commission but I would want you to do a prelim sketch to let me know if I want to commission you.
Answer:
I do not do any work without being payed before, anything. Not even a stick figure.
The reason? Some people used the opposite to scam artists(it happened me before) and since it's quite easy to do that on DA even after being banned I use this method now.
That is: I charge the full payment first.
But you can take for certain that I'm not out to scam clients either, my work ethic is my honor.
I've been around in DA for several years and all the commissions I did through DA contacts have always met with client satisfaction (at least I haven't gotten any note or comment of complain) and are posted somewhere in my gallery(unless the client specially requests otherwise.
And to be fair, I do reserve slots for people in the order of the notes arrival before any payments if there's any chance that I can't fulfill the commission in time to avoid any hussle.
When I'm sure I have time for delivering the commission I shall note the client so he/she can send the payment before I start the work.
Question:
-Are you open for commissions?
Answer:
Check the Journals and/or my signature. As I stated before, Commissions are just an extra so that's why I do them on limited slots so I can control the schedule better.
I rarely do commissions if the Journals/Signature says the opposite, but if the compensation is worth it I might do an exception.
Question:
-What materials do you use?
Answer:
* Mechanical pencils 2.0-0.5 -0.3 mm tip, and HB,H and 2H for regular penciling.
For the inking it's mostlly pens and markers, I know it's more professional to use brushes but I'm still a bit clumsy with it, I use brushes for some things that require more expressive strokes or some bolder black lines, spots, blobs and filling big black areas. The brands I've used and recommend are Pilot, Edding, Sharpie and Copics they all have hi quality inks and a wide variety of pen tips, you just have to choose over for what your objectives are, at that point is only trial and error my friends. There's also the Unipin brand of markers, that though neither the ink or the tips are the best(not that bad either, just average) the ink dry faster than most and the markers are really easy for standard use, so keep that in mind. But stay away from Stablio(unless they fixed them) I had very bad experiences many years ago, the ink rusts and it stain every paper it touches :/-
Question:
-How much time does an illustration or a comic/manga page take you to do?
Answer:
It really varies a lot, depending on the details, layouts, panels, style, colors, etc. .
But the standard in the comic book industry is roughly a page per day-pencils only.
Question:
-When will you make more pages for the doujinshi "Dragonball Gaiden"?
Answer:
As I stated before, drawing is my profession, drawing comics to be more specific. That's what gets my salary.
Therefore, as much of a huge DB and Akira Toriyama fan I am, my work is my priority. Though I loved doing this dojinshi, it gets increasingly difficult to find time and energy to devote to it.
The conflict here is job(drawing) versus hobby (drawing)so it's gets complicated, since it uses the same tools (including my hand) so if use my free time the same way I work...it can be really exhausting. Because you must also remember that apart from drawing I've lot of other activities I have to do that are needed to be done and I cannot avoid them(you know, unless I want to go to jail in debts and loose any traces of health).
Question:
-How long is the DB dojinshi is going to be?
Answer:
-Originally I planned this fanmanga to be a few chapters long but that's no longer a possibility. When I started this it was just a practice, some fun pastime, and -I think- 3 years later I work as a comic artist and the time I have available for this type of thing is really very little. So sadly ending it is the only way...

Pregunta:
-Que materiales usas para trabajar?
Respuesta:
